Monster Rancher Episode 10: The Ruin's Secret

On this episode of Monster Rancher, the Searchers meet their most powerful enemy yet--a member of Moo's Big Bad Four. Battles will ensue!

The gang pilots Ed's Iron Bird over Heaven's Canyon...

And then they start to run out of fuel! "I have an announcement," cries Hare. "It looks like the fuel for the plane has run out!"

Genki and Mocchi aren't worried because they're almost at the other side... until they start to fall!

Hare panics and Suezo tells him to can the hot air, but Hare points out that hot air is exactly what they need.

Suezo decides that they'll have to sacrifice Golem. "He's the heaviest. He's gonna have to jump off, nobly sacrificing himself to save the rest of us young folks!"

Golem is not okay with that plan, and Tiger uses his Blizzard attack to push the balloon up. In the uncut version, real-world physics came into play here and Hare had to use his Gas move to save the day--the only other time the move was used in the series, as far as I know.

The gang makes it safely across, but Holly realizes that they have no idea how to land! Even worse, they're headed straight for a huge rock formation!

Genki tries to steer the Iron Bird, but instead he snaps the controls. And they're still headed for the mountain!

The Searchers jump for it, with Tiger carrying Genki and Holly while Golem carries Suezo, Mocchi, and Hare.

But the Iron Bird crashes and explodes.

Genki's relieved that everyone's okay, but Holly's sad. "The Iron Bird is history..." "So much for easy traveling," adds Suezo. Genki just says that their legs are all right and they can walk to the ends of the earth if they have to. (Suezo wonders if they ever get bummed out, and he responds that even if he did, he'd cover it up with a laugh.)

That night, at some ancient ruins...

Humans are forced to mine Mystery Disks.

As the camera pans up to a castle, we hear a voice. It's Pixie.

"This is most annoying, Big Blue... Neither the Evil Hares nor Captain Clay was able to stop them!" (She could mean Ed's little breakout from her camp, though it's more likely they meant Captain Kuro and slipped up.)

Her servant Big Blue (a Golem/Tiger breed) nods. "I know. I'm sorry, Pixie. It's not good. The troublemakers have crossed Heaven's Canyon, and now I have been informed that they are approaching our sector."

She stares, and he finishes. "My apologies."

Pixie speaks. "You don't understand. If we don't stop these troublemakers now, we'll be hearing from Master Moo himself!"

Big Blue nods. "Yes. We'll concentrate all our efforts on finding them. Moo will be pleased..."

The next morning, Holly uses the Magic Stone to show the way to another Mystery Disk.

The Searchers follow the trail... and find Pixie's slave camp! Suezo spies on the Monsters and sees the baddie crest. "They're the Clays. They're Moo's men!" Clays are Jell/Monol types.

As they watch, one of the men falters, collapsing into a pile of Mystery Disks...

And his punishment is to be whipped! "No laziness permitted," shouts Captain Clay.

Enraged, Genki charges for the Clays before Hare can finish coming up with a plan! Mocchi and Tiger follow him.

He jumps for the nearest Clay, who attempts to whip Genki... but he dodges and kicks him square in the gut! This causes Genki to bounce back from the Clay's elastic body, but by this time the others have arrived, with Holly attending to the fallen man.

"Who are you people?" "Slaves."

The Clays soon surround the group!

"Pixie has been expecting you and your friends! She's one of Moo's Big Bad Four and someone that you should be afraid of," one of them says. Captain Clay yells at him for giving information to the enemy and demands the Searchers surrender.

"Just because you outnumber us doesn't mean you've won," Tiger says with a grin. He charges forward and zaps Captain Clay with an ice bullet!

The Clays turn into beam cannons, blasting at Tiger... but he dodges and zaps them with Lightning!

Hare and Suezo attack the Clays too, and when they charge for Holly and the man she was helping, Golem steps in to protect them.

Genki and Mocchi are having a tough time hurting the Clays... And they're soon put in danger from the Clays' Press move! They barely dodge, and the Clay moves to try again...

But Mocchi suddenly feels powerful.

"Cherry Blossom Blizzard, chi!"

In one strike, the Clay is blown into the sky!

Genki is very proud. "Wow, Mocchi! A new attack!"

Tiger's Blizzard freezes the rest of the Clays, and their Captain orders an immediate retreat.

The Searchers cheer, and Hare turns to the enslaved men. "Everyone, everything is all right now!"

But no one moves or even cheers.

One of the men speaks. "That was not a good thing that you just did." Genki's confused, and he goes on. "If we work here quietly and don't cause any trouble, we'll get no trouble in return."

"By resisting the Clays, you just signed up for big trouble!" "We don't wanna be dragged into it!"

Even Holly is annoyed at this, and Tiger says it's just like a human to act like this. The men tell the Searchers to leave before nightfall.

Genki asks if they want to escape, but the men shut him down. "You don't understand! No one escapes from here!"

He says that they will take care of the baddies for them, but they tell the Searchers to get lost. "Good luck!" "Go home!"

Tiger growls at them, and the men reel back, but Genki forces him to stop.

Just then, the man they rescued before stands up and faces the crowd. "Everybody, listen! Let's believe in these people!"

"Even if we continue working here, without making trouble, Pixie... will never free us!" One of the men calls him by name--Mickey.

Genki nods and continues the line of thought. "Do you really wanna be slaves for the rest of your lives?"

The men think it over, and the Searchers and Mickey wait.

One of the men says that if they make a mistake, it will go very badly for them, but Mickey reminds them that they won't get another chance like this.

They give it some thought... and agree to escape.

Genki says he's happy to help out, and Holly formulates a plan. 'We'll stay here and deal with the baddies, and that will give you time to get away!"

The men throw down their shovels and picks and head out.

Hare asks Mickey to explain one thing to him, though. "Just between you and me, how bad can this Pixie Monster be? I mean, with a name like Pixie..."

"Pretty bad! Just ask the people of North Town."

"What's happening there?" "She's got a stranglehold on the whole town! All the humans and Monsters there are under her control!"

"And word is, Moo's lookin' for somethin' really big!"

Genki thinks about whether Pixie works for Moo, while Holly wonders what big thing Moo is looking for. Hmm...

Mickey and his men start to head off, and Genki wishes them good luck.

That night, Pixie is not happy at all.

"Captain Clay! Explain to me why you came running back here."

"Forgive me! I thought that reporting to you was first priority, Master Pixie."

"Explain to me why I would want you here when you could be capturing them there."

Captain Clay apologizes and promises to gather his troops... but Pixie's patience is at an end.

She raises an arm.

"Disappear."

The Captain sees the Lost Disks surrounding them and panics...

But Pixie is unmoved.

With a single blast, Captain Clay becomes a Lost Disk--still simmering from her lightning.

"Now, Big Blue, prepare." He offers to do the mission by himself, but Pixie says she'll go too--just to pass the time.

"There's one more thing, master." "Hmm?"

"It's about the slaves who've escaped." "Have they been caught?"

"Just one so far."

It was Mickey, who stayed behind to let the others escape.

Pixie laughs. "This should prove to be interesting entertainment..."

By nightfall, the Searchers have reached North Town and its camp.

"The Clays are probably watching us right now," Holly comments--and they are.

Hare reminds the group that the unknown factor here is Pixie. Suezo comments that she sounds like a cutie pie, and Golem agrees with him--but Hare cautions to expect the worst and never, ever, underestimate your enemy.

"Here's the plan. All we have to do is hold the baddies' attention until the humans have time to escape. If we run into trouble, we'll retreat!" Tiger retorts that he never retreats, but there's no time to dwell on it...

Because they're here. Big Blue and Pixie ride a Black Dino-pulled chariot.

Holly says Pixie is one of Moo's top baddies. "They're the ones everyone calls the Big Bad Four!"

Golem watches her. "That Pixie... doesn't look so bad, to me. She looks... lonesome." The others turn at this, and Suezo comments that Big Blue looks pretty tough. "Taking him on will be my pleasure," growls Tiger.

The chariot stops and, flanked by Clays, Big Blue addresses the Searchers. "Show yourselves, fools! Come out now!"

"We have a friend of yours!"

Everyone gasps.

"Cooperate and you'll make it easy for him!"

Genki doesn't know what they're supposed to do now, but Holly answers for him. "Do as he says."

Hare protests that they're outnumbered by a hundred to one, but Holly says it was their fault Mickey was captured in the first place. "We can't just leave him!" Tiger adds that those are the kinds of odds that make it a challenge.

Big Blue asks the group what the holdup is, and the Searchers reveal themselves.

Pixie isn't impressed. "That's our enemy? A couple of kids and some scruffy Monsters?" "Hardly worth our trouble," Big Blue adds.

Genki retorts that they just made their first mistake: Never underestimate your enemies! "Genki's my name, and that's all the free advice you're going to get from me!"

Pixie smirks. "Well, well, Genki. It's nice to meet you. But didn't your mother ever teach you that little boys shouldn't brag?"

Genki and Tiger are about to attack them, but the hundreds of Clays prepare to attack. "Genki, that's not how to win," Holly chides, and he reluctantly agrees with her.

"All right! We'll come down, but you have to promise to let Mickey go!"

Tiger balks at surrendering, but Hare says the plan is to give in now and think of a better plan later.

The Searchers surrender...

And are chained up.

"Humans will be slaves! Master Moo will turn the Monsters into baddies," Pixie explains.

Genki reminds her of the promise she made. "You made a promise! You said you'd release that man. So what  about it, Pixie?"

Pixie just laughs. "I'm so terrible with promises I just never, ever keep them!"

"A promise is a promise," Genki yells, charging forward with Mocchi on his back.

Genki runs up to Pixie...

And punches her in the face.

Hard.

"Doesn't a promise mean anything anymore," he asks.

Big Blue is enraged that they would strike his master and picks them both up

"What a foolish boy you are," Pixie mumbles, as they struggle in Bug Blue's grasp.

"I think such bravery should be rewarded, don't you, Blue? Let him go!"

Reluctantly, Big Blue does, and Genki and Mocchi prepare to fight Pixie. "I won't lose!"

Golem and Tiger try to charge forward too, but Clays stop them by aiming at Holly! This is only Genki and Mocchi's fight now.

Genki and Mocchi vault at Pixie...

But she dodges.

They're not ready to give up, though. "And now for the Cherry Blossom Blizzard!"

"Try this."

Mocchi unleashes his blizzard...

And Pixie counters. "Flame Wall!"

The fire stops the blizzard from touching her at all.

Pixie then charges them, kicking them near the edge of a cliff! "You still haven't won, Pixie!"

"Oh, yes, I have."

"Lightning!"

With one blast, Genki and Mocchi are sent over the cliff.

The Searchers are stunned. "Genki!" " Mocchi!"

Pixie lands. "I win! You lose."

She waits to see if they've survived, and doesn't see anything. Pixie smirks. "Oh, my goodness me.. I'm afraid they've gone. And they didn't even say goodbye! How rude."

Pixie and Big Blue head off, dragging their prisoners behind them.

The Searchers can only stare at where Genki and Mocchi were.

But near the bottom of the canyon... Genki and Mocchi slowly climb back up.

He misses a step, but saves himself from plunging into the abyss.

"There's no way I'm going to lose!"
